Why was my avatar generation rejected?
Occasionally, generating an avatar from a description doesn't go through. You'll see a message like this:
"We couldn't generate this avatar. This usually happens when the description resembles a real public figure or contains restricted content. Try describing physical features (hair, build, style) rather than referencing specific people."
Why this happens
This is almost always a content safety check, not a bug. It triggers when a description reads as though it's describing a specific, identifiable real person — even indirectly (a distinctive combination of features, a well-known outfit, a name dropped into the description) — or when it touches on restricted content more broadly.
What to do
Rewrite your description to focus on general physical features and style rather than anything that could point to a real individual:
- ✅ "A tall woman in her 30s with natural locs, warm smile, wearing a navy blazer."
- ❌ Describing someone in a way that clearly points to a specific real, identifiable person.
Then click Try again.
Does this use up a generation?
Yes. A rejected attempt still counts toward your 3 generations per avatar, the same as a successful one. Each rejection screen shows how many attempts you have left, so you can decide how to spend your remaining tries.
If you run out without landing on a preview you're happy with, you can always switch to Upload photo and finish that way instead — see How do I build my avatar?
If instead you see a generic error rather than this specific message, that's a different, unrelated issue (a technical failure rather than a content check) — retrying usually resolves it, and it doesn't necessarily mean your description was the problem.
