How do I choose a studio environment for my podcast?

Your studio environment is the setting your podcast is filmed in — everything from a sleek tech studio to a rooftop skyline. You pick it from the Studio Backgrounds panel, alongside your avatar on the Avatar tab, and it gets baked directly into your avatar when you build it.

Step 1 — Choose your format

At the top of Studio Backgrounds, pick between two formats:

  • 1–2 Guests — a standard, two-chair setting. Room for you and up to one guest.
  • Panel · 3 — a three-chair panel setting. Room for you and up to two guests.

Switching formats filters the environment grid below to only show settings built for that format, and picks a sensible default environment for you automatically.

note

Switching from Panel · 3 back down to 1–2 Guests trims your speaker list to one guest if you'd already added two — the extra guest is removed automatically, since a two-chair setting only has room for one.

Step 2 — Browse and pick an environment

The grid shows every environment available for your chosen format — Tech Studio, Photographer Studio, Football Studio, Basketball Studio, Gaming Studio, Political Studio, Study Room, City Rooftop, and more. Click any thumbnail to select it; your current pick is highlighted, and shown by name just below the grid.

Your environment gets baked in with your avatar

Environment selection happens on the Avatar tab because it's part of the avatar build itself — when you click Build my avatar or Use this, your chosen environment is baked in together with your avatar in one step, not applied separately afterward.

That means:

  • Pick your environment before you build, since it can't be swapped out after the fact without rebuilding.
  • Once you move on to later tabs, your environment shows up as a locked-in, completed step ("Environment plate") rather than something you can still change.
tip

If you want to try the same avatar in a different setting, that's a rebuild rather than a re-pick — see How do I switch or rebuild my avatar?

What AwakeVerse handles for you

  • Filtering environments to your format automatically, so you're never shown a three-chair panel setting while building a solo or two-person podcast.
  • Sensible defaults when you switch formats, so you're never left without a selection.
  • Baking your environment and avatar together, so what you picked here is exactly what appears in your finished podcast — no separate compositing step to think about.

When it's done

Your environment choice carries all the way through to your finished podcast, visible as a completed step once you reach the Generate tab. From here, if you're doing an open conversation, add your guest next — see How do I add a guest to my podcast?
